How to Choose a Pen

May 16, 2008 · No Comments

Author: Lolita Brown

When choosing a pen there are several things that I consider, so here is my definitive list of how to choose a pen that is right for you.
1) What am I using it for?
If you using a pen on a building site, for example, you want to make sure that you pen is going to withstand being dropped on a floor, kicked around and writing on uneven surfaces.

I need a pen for everyday, that isn’t going to leak everywhere and as I will inevitably drop it at some point, so it needs to be durable. I spend quite a bit of my days writing notes and going to meetings, so it needs to flow and allow me to write quickly. In this case, the best kind of pen for me would be a metal, roller ball.

2) What does it look like?
Black, silver, pink, patterned, metal, plastic, fun, stylish, and corporate; there is something for everyone.

My pen should look good and by good I mean that I want something that says something about me: professional, expensive and even if it is a lie. I prefer brushed metal or black matte and something with a good shape. I love the Parker Urban pens. They have a great ergonomics with an unconventional bullet shape and perfect weight and balance. They come in a range of colors, but I love the Parker Urban Fashion Blue as it is stylish and simple with the striking blue adding something a little different.

3) Is the pen comfortable to write with?
The last thing that you want is writer’s cramp when you are going to be to writing for a few hours and equally you want to make sure that you can grip the pen, so make sure that it isn’t too heavy or an awkward shape.

4) Does brand matter?
Personally I think that the brand of the pen matters. I know that if I buy a quality pen then it is going to last and is going to work in the way that I want it to. A Parker pen, for example, has it all: comfort, style and durability and more than anything, credibility.
Consider these factors and you are sure to find the right pen for you.

Buscum Ducis Watches Redux

It may not seem as if there are a lot of men’s fashion accessories out there, but in fact men make use of more accessories than they realize. An accessory is an item or piece of clothing that you don’t need to wear, but it does accent your look and can even serve a purpose. So fashion accessories are even quite useful to a person in the course of day to day activities. There are all sorts of items that really are men’s fashion accessories.

Watches
the wrist watch is not as common as it once was, but for a short period of time every man had a wrist watch and every man’s watch had a thick gold band or a leather one. The men’s watch is still popular today and it comes in many forms to further prove its popularity and convenience.

Perhaps some of the most attractive men’s wrist watches of today are platinum or stainless steel. The industrial look is in with guys. This even applies to some other forms of jewelry that men typically wear.

Jewelry
A man does wear jewelry and jewelry can be common men’s fashion accessories. You’ll see plenty of dudes wearing necklaces, rings and earrings. Though these high fashion items are often a little bit heavier and more bulky than similar women’s jewelry items.

As mentioned above, platinum and stainless steel are popular metals for men these days. You’ll also see white gold, silver and even wood used in some men’s jewelry. Simple chains are still the best choice for men’s necklaces. Earrings and rings can and are usually outrageous in design or simple and bold. There are plenty of rooms in men’s fashion for silly or unique statements.

Roberto Cavalli\'s Tie

Ties
the men’s tie is probably the iconic men’s fashion accessory. Its purpose has been lost to history, but the tie appears to have evolved from the tradition simple neck scarf. Now the tie is a fashion accessory must for dressy occasions and comes in all colors, patterns and sizes.

You’ll want to pick out at least three ties for yourself. One is plain dark blue or black for serious occasions, one in a color that suits you or that you like for parties, and one is just plain silly for that drunken Christmas party every year. If you have trouble picking out the tie that suits you, try going for a color that matches your eyes, so you’ll always be matched when wearing it.

Sunglasses
another of the more commonly used men’s fashion accessories are sunglasses. There is pair of glasses out there for every man. They come in so many different shades, shapes and styles these days it can be hard to choose though.

Typically men wear larger frames than women because it appears more masculine. This doesn’t mean a guy has to wear gigantic aviators. Pick the frame that best suits your image or the image you want to project about yourself. Plastic frames are more eye-catching so you’ll draw more attention. Metal frames are more refined and understated; they also appear to be a higher quality. Plastic frames also look more casual, unless you are going for the Men in Black look with solid black lenses.

There are always more men’s fashion accessories to learn about, but these are the basic four. A man with a good watch, ring, tie and sunglasses is well placed in the world.

How to Buy a Good Tie:

  1. Buy a tie with correct length. The standard is 130 – 150 cm. If you are a tall man, you need a longer tie. Try to wear them and it is an appropriate tie length if the triangle tip of the tie touches your belt buckle.
  2. Unless you can afford to buy many ties, buy a general width of 8 – 9 cm which will never get out of fashion.
  3. While shopping for a tie, you better bring your suit. It will help you imagining how the tie will look when worn. If the jacket is a sport coat, then you should consider the color of the trousers while selecting the tie.
  4. Before you pay at the cashier, carefully check the tie for any manufacturing defect. It could be uneven weaving, stain, loose threads, discoloration, smudge, etc.

How to Match a Tie with Clothes and the Occasion:

  1. Use silks or silk blend ties if you have a business meeting. You may use a polyester tie when you’re in regular office
  2. For job interview, pick a conservative tie. Avoid ties with pictures and cartoons unless your interview is in the fashion or music industry. It is usually best to stay away from ties decorative color with your favorite logo. Just imagine showing up at the job interview with your Chicago Bulls tie around your neck only to see the signed Jason Kidd jersey on the office wall during the interview….And, make sure you know how to tie a tie.
  3. You may wear cartoon or pictures tie at informal occasion, like birthday party or a family gathering.
  4. Conservative tie for serious occasions would be a solid colored, striped or dotted pattern tie.
  5. Match patterns and textures of the clothing with the tie. A light tone tie suits a dark colored shirt. Avoid wearing a striped tie with a striped shirt, with the exception of a pin-striped shirt. You better pick a solid tie instead.
  6. Match the color too. A dark shirt suits lighter colored tie and a bright shirt can be relieved by a dark tie. Dark blue and dark red colors seldom go wrong in ties. You can also do gradation by selecting same color of your tie and shirt but in a lighter or darker shade.
  7. Some people are aware that their face and skin should affect tie selection. Well, if you have a strong angular face, you should wear striped ties. Dotted and paisley printed ties go well with a round or baby face. Solid worn can be worn by everyone.

Donald Trump, Chairman of Trump University

With summer just around the corner, a lot of employees in a lot of businesses start dressing like it’s Casual Friday every day of the week. They utterly forget about professionalism and start dressing totally inappropriately for work.

In fact, Monster, an online job and recruiting site, conducted a poll about the biggest fashion faux pas in the office. Employers complained the most about employees who came in to work wearing tank tops and visible underwear. They also had a problem with employees who wear flip-flop sandals, Hawaiian print shirts, and shorts.

Of course…because none of that belongs in a professional environment. If you want people to take you seriously in the workplace, you have to dress the part.

When people come to me for a job interview, I expect them to look the part. If they’re not willing to wear a suit and tie, it’s probably not going to work. I’ve actually had people come to me in undershirts. They may be very talented but it’s impossible to get past that first impression.

Appearance really does matter. Whether you’re in the boardroom or a party or no matter what you’re doing, how you dress says a lot about your personality.

If you look successful, you’re going to be successful.

They shave at least a few times a week and apply aftershave just as often and each time they feel uncomfortable and even painful. It can also cause bumping and irritations since you have left the pores on the surface of your skin open and incredibly sensitive.

The proper way is to shave and then rinse your face off with cool water. This will make the pores closed before you apply the aftershaves. An alcohol-based aftershave will give you shocking experience, a sharp stinging sensation which actually a lot of men do not mind because it makes them fell awake and refreshed. However, if you mind, then you do have to use a lotion or cream-based aftershave which will not be harsh on your skin and gives cool sensation.

Men\'s Diamond Ring

by: brainpulse

It is a very well known fact that diamonds are the hardest substance found on the earth till date. It is also known that they are formed by the nature in varied designs and forms. One can find a variety of expensive precious and semi-precious stones on the earth and the diamonds are one of the costly gems found on the earth. These stones are used in making jewelry and adding value to the other accessories of another use.

Each piece of diamond found from the beneath of the earth has different features and values. The gemologists analyze the value of the gem and grant a certificate. The value of a diamond piece is determined on the basis of its color, clarity, cut and carat.

Color of the diamond plays a major role in defining its cost. The colorless diamond is the best quality of the diamond. However, one can find diamonds in a range of red, blue, pink, purple, orange, brown, yellow, green, white and black color. The colored diamonds are technically defined as defected pieces; but still they are pleasing to the eyes. The diamonds get the coloring from the impurities in the mineral. These are found in the cells which makes the upper layer of the crystal.

The colored diamonds may be the defected pieces but if combined with the other colored diamonds, a stunning piece of diamond jewelry could be made. The value of the diamond jewelry is identified on the scale of color of the gem. The color scale to measure the value of diamond starts from letter ‘D’. The best known quality of diamond known till date is stated under the letter ‘D’ as the experts want to leave a space for the other superior quality of diamond. The alphabet ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ are left for the best quality of diamonds. The scale moves forward alphabetically.

It is hard to find the diamond with least color. The scales move ahead with letter ‘E’ and ‘F’. There is a minute difference between the two points. A lay man can not find the difference in the piece. However, an expert can judge the difference. But the difference between the grade ‘G’ and ‘H’ could be identified by anyone comparing with the other high grade diamonds. They are near to the colorlessness. Similarly the diamonds stated under ‘I’ and ‘J’ also called as near colorless ness; but has more colored comparing to the diamonds under ‘G’ and ‘H’. The scale goes till ‘Z’.

The level of color increases with the increase in the letter on the scale; which means the ‘Z’ lettered diamond piece is ranked lowest on the scale of colorlessness. The quality also decreases with the increment of the letters on the scale. This scale is used only to measure the colorlessness of the diamond; and applied only to the white diamonds. Colored diamonds are not measured on this scale. The experts measure the quality of colored diamonds by their own self.
